As part of its commitment to transparency, efficiency and innovation, the Electoral Commission (IEC) has created functionality in the form of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to provide election and voting data in real-time to stakeholders including political parties, media institutions and other interested parties. The purpose of this page is to define and provide a set of APIs which are made available by the IEC. These functions can be used by 3rd party web sites, mobile devices, political parties and media to retrieve data relating to voters and election results. This page specifies where these APIs are located and, how the API’s can be called. Detailed specification information is also included with sample code, calling parameters and structure of the returned data. An example of an app that utilised this API is that of the News24 iOS and Android elections app which provides users with all the authoritative information and results from the 2014 national elections.
